FAQ

General questions about mica.
What is mica?

Mica is one of the phyllosilicate minerals which occur mainly in the form of igneous rock and metamorphic rock.

What is the difference between phlogopite and muscovite?

Their elemental composition is different.
Phlogopite is soft and highly heat-resistant, while muscovite is hard and highly insulating.

What is the difference between naturally mined mica and synthetic mica?

Synthetic mica is very expensive as it is manufactured through a special process.
Its advantages include a high purity of almost 100% and a high degree of whiteness that makes it easy to use for design purposes.

What is the difference between dry ground products and wet ground products?

The advantage of dry ground products is that they do not use water in the manufaturing process which eliminates the need for a drying process. It allows them to be supplied at a lower cost.
On the other hand, wet ground products have advantages such as higher smoothness of the particle surface.

What is “aspect ratio”?

For mica powders, aspect ratio is the average particle size divided by average thickness.

Questions about our product series “Repco Mica”.
What kind of product is Repco Mica?

It is a product series made by refining and grinding mica into a powder, ranging from a few microns to several hundred microns, and classifying it by average particle size.

Is Repco Mica a dry ground product or a wet ground product?

All of our main grades of Repco Mica are dry ground.
We also handle some wet ground products. Please contact us for details.

If we use Repco Mica as a filler, how much filling is required?

It depends on what kind of functions you want and what material you fill the mica into, but usually approximately 10wt% – 30wt% is required.

Can you manufacture a custom-made product?

Yes. If your annual demand is 10,000 kg or more, we can provide the custom-made product for the similar price of our main products.
If your annual demand is low, the price may be relatively expensive as we need to outsource some of our manufacturing processes.

Do you also handle calcined mica products?

Even though it is not our main product, we handle some. Please contact us for details.

Is Repco Mica harmful to the human body?

It is safe to the human body. However, since it is a fine powder product, general dust control is required.

Is there a quality assurance system?

For all of our products manufactured at our head factory in Okayama, each production lot is controlled and the quality is assured based on the specifications (moisture content, bulk density, particle size distribution, etc.) established for each grade.

How do you measure particle size?

Products with coarse average particle size are measured using the dry sieving method, while products with fine average particle size are measured using the laser method.

Questions about delivery.
What kind of packaging is the product delivered in?

Usually, “XF” grades, which are fine particle size with low bulk density, are packed in 15kg paper bag, while other grades are packed in 20kg paper bag.
We can also deliver our products packed in a flexible container (300 – 500 kg) on demand.

How long does it take for the product to be delivered?

Delivery in Japan takes about 5 – 7 business days.
Delivery outside Japan can take from a few weeks to 3 months depending on the destination.
